Declutter Your Life

Greetings!

These past days I've been feeling uneasy with my living surroundings. Ever since I started this new approach to life in general, I feel like I just have too much going on, not only materialistically speaking but emotionally as well. Have you ever felt like you just need to... declutter your life?

I was looking around my bedroom and I couldn't help but notice the amount of things that I have on every corner. My bedroom is not messy by any means, it just has TOO MUCH STUFF. Things that maybe anyone would see and say "they look fine to me" but there is just this energy in the air that feels like the weight of the world and I need to breathe. This got me thinking about doing kind of a makeover to my bedroom so I sat down and reflected on how I wanted to do it.

I want to feel relaxed and serene, so I will not have any electronics in the room except for my e-reader and phone but only for emergencies. I want it to become my sanctuary and the place I can go to meditate and find peace from the stress of life. While I was thinking about what to do with the room, I also started thinking about other aspects of my life I'd like to declutter.

It's not always the material things that keep your head full of stress but also other people, situations, friends, family, job, etc. I had already begun decluttering my "friends" months ago because I felt like I couldn't handle some of them anymore, so it was time for me to step away from them, not completely but far enough so that they don't stress me out. I also did it with some members of my family who are just impossible to deal with. I'm not saying that one should just forget about everyone and be forever alone but one does need to stop paying attention to people who are only complaining, making negative remarks, hurting, and who don't really bring anything nourishing to ones lives.

From that point I also jumped to another: What about my emotional clutter?

It's important to remember that as friends or family might get the best out of us sometimes, we are not exempt of doing the same to others. We must reach within ourselves and analyze emotions, actions or thoughts that we might have that are hurting us as well as others and get rid of them. I for one, need to get rid of past anger that I have bottled up inside and negative attitudes that hurt people. I know very well that these emotions do me no good. I also need to stop trying to analyze every little thing and feel like I need to take control of everything.

I know all of these things will take time and practice but I think I'm already a step ahead and I have a clear goal of where and who I want to be. I'll start with the easy, obvious stuff like my room and then move onto greater things, one step at a time. I feel like these things will help me in my journey and will help me simplify my life and learn to actually enjoy it instead of worrying about meaningless things.

Have you ever decluttered your life? Do you feel like it's time to declutter? Let me know!

Until next time.
